Most yoga teachers don’t realize how important it is to have this conversation around yoga, body image & feminism. These are not only highly relevant whether you’re a yoga teacher or a yoga enthusiast. My own relationship with my body image has been constantly evolving over the years. As an Indian Yoga teacher living in the US, I’ve had these conversations with many Indian students of mine who’ve often thought the gold standard of body image was being thin. Or somehow losing weight would make life better in every possible way.
I’ve been keen to have this conversation on the podcast but was waiting to find the right guest. I’m excited that you get to hear Melanie Klein on the show today. She’s a professor of sociology and Women’s Studies, an empowerment coach, thought leader, and influencer in the areas of radical self-acceptance, authentic empowerment, and supercharged confidence. Her areas of interest and specialty include media literacy education, body image, and the intersectional analysis of systems of power and privilege. She is the co-author of Yoga and Body Image: 25 Personal Stories About Beauty, Bravery & Loving Your Body.
Melanie is the real deal when it comes to yoga and body image. She packs so much information into today’s episode about yoga, body image & the role of intersectional feminism. If you’re a yoga student, yoga teacher, or enrolled in yoga teacher training, hit play now.
