Understanding Meditation – an introduction

Despite having over 150 episodes of the Let’s Talk Yoga Podcast, we haven’t yet delved deeply into meditation. I’ve been increasingly interested in the topic over the past year and have been waiting for the right guest to kickstart the conversation.

In the near future, we’ll explore various aspects of meditation in greater detail. Recently, I came across Jimmy Wightman, also known as That Meditation Guy on Instagram. Based in the UK, he is a well-respected meditation and mindfulness teacher. I’ve been following Jimmy’s work for quite some time, and I believe the time is right to have him as a guest on the podcast.

I’m excited to introduce meditation in this episode. My aim is to make it accessible to everyone, regardless of their experience with yoga. Jimmy is an excellent guide and resource. If you’re looking for a structured approach to meditation, this episode is a must-listen.

Jimmy Wightman

Jimmy Wightman is a meditation and mindfulness teacher based in Brighton, UK. He’s been featured on the BBC, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Yahoo News and other similar publications. Jimmy’s interest in meditation started after many years of partying and DJing on the London clubbing scene left him feeling broken, depressed and suffering from insomnia. In a desperate attempt to gain back control of his life, Jimmy found a teacher from the ancient Vedic tradition (from India) and discovered a profound level of inner peace and stillness that was previously unthinkable. Despite being an atheist at the time, that was the beginning of his spiritual journey. Jimmy went onto explore many styles of practice such as Transcendental Meditation, Vipassana and Zen before training as a meditation teacher himself. He now teaches deep mantra meditation inspired by Himalayan Yogis (Advaita Vedanta tradition) as well as mindfulness inspired by his teacher Shinzen Young (author of The Science of Enlightenment).
